ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Kenneth Henderson, who is again under suspension following charges of misconduct while sheriff of Towns County, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Henderson is currently awaiting trial on a felony indictment directly connected to body camera videos uncovered by Atlanta News First Investigates.

Henderson was suspended last year following the first report. The Georgia Sheriffs' Association had sent Gov. Brian Kemp a link to the Atlanta News First report when calling for the initial investigation.

Henderson's initial indictment was withdrawn earlier this year after his defense attorney found one of the grand jurors living across the border in North Carolina. A new Towns County grand jury indicted the sheriff on identical charges in May.

On Sunday, Kemp signed a new executive order Sunday suspending Henderson for another 60 days on new allegations of misconduct in office. Kemp's executive order followed a Saturday order, which called for an investigation into  allegations of misconduct in office  that were brought to the governor's attention Friday.

In the executive orders, Kemp wrote the new investigation is not related to the allegations that led to the indictment against Henderson. Those allegations previously prompted the governor to issue an executive order on Sept. 19 to open a misconduct investigation into the sheriff.

Kemp appointed Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood and Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown to  investigate the alleged misconduct of Sheriff Henderson.  The commission was given 30 days to investigate, but took only hours before returning a recommendation to suspend the sheriff for a second time.

His appointees immediately returned a report Saturday recommending a new suspension for Henderson.

Unlike the September executive order, these new orders from Kemp do not cite the Georgia Sheriffs' Association as the source of the allegations.
