ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Marietta police said a 911 call about squatters led investigators to uncover a criminal sex ring that's been trafficking minors.

Four young suspects, including one who's still on the run, have been charged in the investigation, the Marietta Police Department said Wednesday.

On the morning of May 27, maintenance workers at an apartment complex on Franklin Gateway called police after seeing squatters in a vacant apartment.

Inside, officers found 18-year-old Jadon Mitchell, 17-year-old Keatron Jones, a juvenile boy and two teen girls sleeping, according to police.

Officers discovered Jones had an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated assault.

The underage boy had been reported missing by his family. He was taken to police headquarters and reunited with them. His identity was not released because of his age.

Mitchell did not have warrants and was initially released.

The two girls were listed as missing runaways. Police said they appeared to be under the influence and needed medical attention. Both were taken to a local pediatric hospital.

Based on what officers found at the apartment, the case expanded to a human trafficking investigation, which detectives have pursued in partnership with the Cobb County District Attorney's Office.

According to court documents, investigators determined the two girls were being held in the apartment and forced to have sex for money.

The investigation has resulted in charges against Mitchell, Jones and the unidentified boy found in the vacant apartment, along with another suspect who was not in the apartment during the May 911 call, 17-year-old Damian Downing.

Downing was charged on June 18 with trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, removal of a monitoring device, obstruction, crossing guard lines with marijuana and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

Mitchell was charged on June 29 with trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and first-degree burglary. Jones was charged with the same counts on June 30.
