ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Prosecutors said a Woodstock man convicted of raping a woman and violating a protective order she had against him was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison.

Last year, the victim reported to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office that Roman Viderman, with whom she was in a relationship, had sexually assaulted her multiple times, according to the District Attorney's Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, which covers the county.

The woman said the assaults happened while she was asleep and unable to protect herself, and that she told Viderman to stop but he refused.

The victim said Viderman was also  conducting unauthorized surveillance  of her in violation of a temporary protective order, the district attorney's office said.

Surveillance video shown during the trial showed Viderman driving by the woman's home.

Viderman, 48, was found guilty of rape and and violation of a temporary protective order in May. He was found not guilty of aggravated sexual battery.

During Friday's sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Ashley Snow read the victim's impact statement, which described years of  fear, coercion, control, and uncertainty. 

 One of the deepest wounds I carry is that I truly believed if I could only explain my pain clearly enough, the person I loved would understand and stop hurting me,  the statement read.  When I finally accepted that nothing I said or did would change him, I left. That was when the fear truly began. 

The judge ordered Viderman to serve 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole, followed by life on probation with sex offender special conditions. He also ordered Viderman to not contact the victim.
