MARIETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - With students set to return to class in less than a month, schools and community groups across metro Atlanta are holding back-to-school events to help families prepare with supplies and support services.

Pearson Middle School in Cobb County hosted its third annual Back-to-School Bash on Friday, partnering with community organizations to provide wraparound resources for families.

More than 400 students left with free bookbags packed with school supplies.

Families also had access to free health exams, student haircuts and help with school registration, according to the school.

Principal Kristie Brown said those services can help students feel more confident heading into the new school year.

 So to come in with a nice haircut, a nice bookbag, their family excited about starting the school year, it just means the world to them, and it helps them to be more successful during the middle school years,  Brown said.

The Salvation Army of Gwinnett also hosted its  Stuff the Bus  drive at the Walmart on Collins Hill Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Organizers said donations of new school supplies will go to Gwinnett County students.

On Saturday, the Gwinnett Sheriff's Office will host a Back to School Bash at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering free backpacks and school supplies, along with health screenings.
