ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Cobb County Jail detainee died at the hospital over the weekend after he went into cardiac arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

Robert Hardy, 64, died Sunday at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office announced Monday morning.

Deputies said Hardy was booked in the Cobb County Jail on June 11 on charges of first-degree arson, driving over a fire hose, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

On Saturday, deputies reportedly discovered Hardy was in cardiac arrest. Medical staff immediately rendered aid to Hardy, who was taken to Kennestone and put on a ventilator.

Despite life-saving measures, Hardy  did not have a viable path to recovery  and  his family made the difficult decision to end his care,  deputies said.

The sheriff's office is conducting an internal review to confirm that all protocols were followed, which is customary for any in-custody death.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner will determine Hardy's official cause of death.
