ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man is in the hospital after being shot in southwest Atlanta Monday afternoon.

The 26-year-old victim walked into The Family Health Center at West End, located at 884 York Ave. SW, with an apparent gunshot wound about 1:30 p.m., police said. He was alert, conscious and breathing and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicates he was shot near 983 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. SW after a verbal dispute escalated to gunfire.

No other details were provided.
