A young boy was critically injured when he was shot on Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, police said.

Around 4 p.m., a 4-year-old boy was shot in the head inside a residence on the 2200 block of East 99th Street in the city's South Deering neighborhood, police said.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition.
