An 18-year-old woman died after being shot in the head Wednesday night in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Police at about 8:53 p.m. responded to a residence in the 2700 block of South Monitor Avenue and found the woman with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was taken by ambulance to Loyola University Medical Center, where she later died, police said.

Area 5 detectives are investigating.
