An investigation was underway after a man was critically injured when shots were fired during a fight at an Auburn Gresham apartment, police said.

Chicago police said at around 7:28 p.m., a 28-year-old man was involved in a physical altercation with another man inside an apartment in the 8500 block of South Parnell near West 85th Street. The suspect fired shots at the victim, striking him in the chest.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Area Two detectives were investigating.
