During a red carpet interview, Jackson held Holmes' hand and gushed that they've had a  precious  relationship since working together on  Dawson's Creek  over 20 years ago.

 And [it] is like one of the core personal and professional relationships in my life,  he said about Holmes, 47.

Jackson's last public relationship was with Lupita Nyong'o, whom he dated for around a year until their October 2024 split.

During their relationship, the actors went to a Janelle Monáe concert together and took a trip to Mexico to celebrate Nyong'o's 41st birthday.

Before that, Jackson was married to Jodie Turner-Smith for four years before she filed for divorce in October 2023.

The exes are still working out custody issues regarding their daughter Juno, born in April 2020.

At the time of their split, a source told US Weekly Jackson was  caught off guard  by Turner-Smith's divorce filing.

Another source said to People that the pair were in a very  unhealthy  marriage.

During an appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's  Dinner's on Me  podcast in April 2025, Jackson compared his experience as a father to  self-healing. 

 It's my job, shared with my ex-wife, to do everything we can to nurture you, cultivate you and give you all the tools you need in life,  he said.
