MARTA installed new glass faregates as part of its Better Breeze overhaul. Earlier this month, the agency reported that at least five faregates had shattered. MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher said 10 people were arrested for vandalizing the new faregates. Their identities have not been released. The new faregates installed for the Better Breeze program were two quarter-inch glass panes placed together; after the faregates shattered, the agency said it would switch to one half-inch pane. MARTA said intentionally destroying property or causing damage worth at least $500 results in a felony charge. The agency said the panes are worth at least $500. Shattered glass isn't the only problem MARTA has encountered lately. Some have questioned the transit service's safety after a 66-year-old woman was stabbed and killed on a train - especially as hundreds of thousands of travelers are expected to descend on the city for the World Cup. Anyone with information on vandalism of MARTA property can contact MARTA through the agency's app or by calling 404-848-4901. #atlantanewsfirst #crimewatchatlanta
