(WMC) - An Arkansas woman has been convicted and sentenced for Medicaid fraud after submitting false claims and exploiting vulnerable beneficiaries, according to the Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin. Brandi Davis, 41, pleaded guilty on May 4 to one count of a class A felony Medicaid fraud and a class B felony, also for Medicaid fraud. In June, Davis was sentenced to two years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections plus an additional eight years of suspended imposition following time served. In addition, Davis must pay $74,579.88 in restitution. Davis worked at 1st Choice Home Care as both a caregiver and in administrative roles. While serving in that capacity, Attorney General Griffin said she created fake employee profiles for her son and used it to bill Medicaid for personal care services that were never rendered. While working as a caregiver, Davis conspired with the guardian of two minor Medicaid recipients who approved timesheets for services that never happened. In return, Davis paid the guardian kickbacks, according to the Attorney General. This case demonstrates that those who engage in Medicaid fraud, submit false claims, and exploit vulnerable beneficiaries can face serious consequences, including prison time, Attorney General Griffin said in a statement.
