Shelby County Jail records show that 26-year-old Jazaria Dorsey was arrested Friday on one count of motor vehicle theft. Jazaria Dorsey, 26 (Shelby County Sheriff's Office) Her arrest comes after a private ambulance was stolen from Methodist North Hospital just after sunset on Thursday, June 11. According to the arrest affidavit, hospital staff walked out to the ambulance bay to load a patient when they saw a woman enter the empty ambulance and drive off. Police found the ambulance empty and abandoned a short time later along Summer Avenue near National Street. Memphis police swept the area for the suspect, but were unsuccessful in their search. Police say Dorsey left behind hospital paperwork with her name on it at the scene. Hospital staff confirmed she was discharged from the hospital right before the theft. When investigators looked into who Dorsey was, they learned she was arrested and charged with evading arrest the day prior in Downtown Memphis. Court records show she was released from jail the same day and appeared in court for her arraignment Thursday morning, just hours before the alleged heist at Methodist North. Authorities issued a warrant for Dorsey's arrest on Sunday. She was formally booked on Friday. The affidavit did not list a motive for the theft. Dorsey's bond and hearing information are currently unknown. Click here to sign up for our newsletter! Click here to report a spelling or grammar error.
