By now everyone has heard of Christopher Nolan's epic film  The Odyssey.  Landing in theaters on Friday, July 17, the new movie is being hailed as the summer's biggest blockbuster, if not the cinematic event of the year.

Even so, Robert Pattinson, who plays Antinous, one of Penelope's suitors, revealed during an interview with TODAY correspondent Kaylee Hartung that when Nolan first approached him to join the cast, he hesitated before signing on.

 My first thought always with a part is like,  I don't know if I can do anything.' But sometimes I get more scared if someone's saying, just off the bat,  Do you want to do this thing?'  Pattinson said of his initial reaction.  My imposter syndrome kicks in very, very hard. 

Widely known for his role as Edward Cullen in the  Twilight  films and for playing the dark knight in  The Batman  franchise, Pattison previously worked with Nolan on the 2020 sci-fi film  Tenet. 


Despite his initial misgivings over teaming up with the director again, Pattinson ultimately accepted Nolan's offer to play Antinous, the scheming suitor who plots to marry Penelope and destroy her son, Telemachus, played by Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland, respectively.

The legendary tale chronicles the journey of Odysseus, king of the Greek island of Ithaca, who leaves his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, to lead the Trojan War.

After a decade of battle, Odysseus triumphs and begins the long voyage home. It's a quest that takes him years. Along the way, he encounters a variety of life-and-death challenges handed down from the gods.

In his absence, dozens of opportunistic suiters descend upon his kingdom, each hoping to marry Penelope and steal the throne.
