a targeted arrest operation in the Bronx, New York, to arrest an undocumented immigrant with a criminal record-originally from the Dominican Republic-who had a prior conviction for grand theft and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession, and weapons possession. The individual has ties to the Trinitarios gang, the same organization responsible for the brutal murder of a CBP officer last year, the statement said. This undocumented immigrant with a criminal record had been arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was released into the community a few days later due to reckless Democratic 'sanctuary city' policies, which endanger American lives, they added. During the incident, an ICE agent discharged their weapon, and the individual was wounded. ICE agents provided immediate assistance. The individual is alive and is being treated at a local hospital. The FBI and HSI are on the scene. The incident remains under investigation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available, the statement said. When radical politicians who support sanctuary' policies release dangerous undocumented immigrants back onto the streets, our agents are forced to make arrests in the community, in unpredictable and risky environments. Our agents should not have to risk their lives, nor should innocent Americans face unnecessary danger, simply because such politicians refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement, the ICE statement concluded.
