Shohei Ohtani won an ESPY award for Best Single‑Game Performance on Wednesday, but it was presenter Mike Tyson who unintentionally stole the spotlight.

The legendary boxer opened the envelope with a dramatic pause, saying,  Check this out,  before attempting to pronounce the Los Angeles Dodgers star's name. He nailed the pronunciation but with a notable beat of hesitation.

Jake Paul, who was standing beside DJ Khaled, went on to deliver the acceptance remarks on Ohtani's behalf, saying,  Shohei could not be here tonight; he sends his gratitude and appreciation to ESPN and everyone who voted for him. 

As Paul wrapped up, Tyson - still processing the name - leaned over and asked, off mic but close enough for the broadcast to pick it up:  Shohei's a guy?

The comment aired clearly, suggesting Tyson was unfamiliar with the four-time MVP, one of the most recognizable athletes in sports. The moment quickly circulated online and became one of the night's most replayed clips.

Paul was heard responding,  Yeah, he's a guy. He's a guy. 

Ohtani won the award for his historic two‑way performance in Game 4 of the 2025 NLCS: six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and three home runs. He also picked up a second ESPY for Best Major League Baseball Player.
