DETROIT - A Detroit police officer is recovering after accidentally shooting himself inside a precinct locker room over the weekend.

Police say the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Saturday morning at the 10th Precinct on the city's west side, where the officer was handling his weapon when it reportedly discharged and struck him in the foot.

The Detroit Police Department says it will be launching an internal investigation into the shooting, which the department says is standard procedure any time an officer discharges a firearm.
