The Michigan Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments over whether Michael Jackson-Bolanos can be retried in the killing of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll, giving the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office a win in its effort to delay his release. Jackson-Bolanos was acquitted in August of first-degree murder in Woll's death. Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on charges of felony murder and home invasion. Prosecutors have sought to keep Jackson-Bolanos in custody while the legal dispute over a possible retrial plays out. Jackson-Bolanos has spent the past two years and nine months in prison on a conviction for lying to police and as a habitual offender. Woll, 40, was found stabbed to death outside her Detroit home in October 2023. Her killing drew widespread attention and prompted an investigation that ultimately led to Jackson-Bolanos being charged. The Michigan Supreme Court's decision to hear arguments will determine the next step in the case and whether prosecutors can pursue another trial on the charges that ended without a verdict. #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
