The case stems from an incident June 17 at a residence in the 12000 block of Washburn Street in Detroit. Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Henry Bernard Montgomery, 38, of Detroit, in connection with burning and torturing a raccoon. (Wayne County Prosecutor's Office) Prosecutors allege Montgomery tortured and burned a raccoon at about 10:44 a.m. and posted a video on social media depicting the animal being burned alive. The Detroit Police Department investigated the case and arrested Montgomery on June 20. Montgomery pleaded guilty as charged. Judge Bradley Cobb indicated Montgomery would receive 18 months of probation, above the sentencing guidelines of zero to 11 months. As part of the proposed sentence, Montgomery would be prohibited from owning pets during his probation. He also would be required to complete 80 hours of community service, pay applicable fines and costs, and complete an animal protection class.
