in a closet inside the homeowner's porch when the homeowner spotted him, she said. The homeowner left the residence, and the suspect ran through house and eventually fled on foot. Officers set up a perimeter, found the 23-year-old nearby in the 1100 block of Elway Street and took him into custody. The Ramsey County Attorney's Office was reviewing the matter as of Thursday for potential charges. The sheriff's office said the man is suspected of going into the 85-year-old woman's house about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. The woman was home in the area of Bayard Avenue near Horace Mann School and St. Catherine University when a man entered her residence. He took her car keys and tried to steal her car from the garage, according to Arcand. She quickly closed her garage door, stopping him from stealing her car, and the suspect fled, Arcand said. We're very thankful the homeowner was not injured during this incident, said Deputy St. Paul Police Chief Nicole Spears. Her ability to stay calm and maintain a strong presence of mind during the incident was impressive and says a lot about her character. As the man was fleeing on Wednesday, the sheriff's office said he asked passersby, How do I get back to Minneapolis? He apparently thought he'd have a better chance of eluding police in Minneapolis because they have stricter policies for avoiding vehicle pursuits, said Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher. The suspect was charged in August with two counts of burglaries of occupied homes in Roseville and two counts of motor vehicle theft, and pleaded guilty to one count of each on Sept. 3 with sentencing scheduled for October.
