SOUTHFIELD - A Detroit woman has been charged with operating a human trafficking enterprise in Southfield after an alleged prostitution victim sought help from a motel housekeeper. Prosecutors say the victim was lured into prostitution by Janeice Florence Robinson, 27, after traveling from Alabama to Michigan in April in search of a job. The victim said Robinson expected her to perform sex acts with multiple men each day, according to police. She said she had been staying with a man she feared and wanted to go to the hospital. As a result, the housekeeper contacted police. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald lauded the housekeeper for her swift action in contacting police, calling her a hero. Trafficking victims are in our communities and often need help escaping their traffickers, McDonald said in a news release on Tuesday. Simple actions, such as calling the police when something looks suspicious or asking someone if they need help, can save a victim. Robinson was arrested and charged with one count of operating a human trafficking enterprise, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine; one count of prostitution - transporting, one count of prostitution - accepting earnings, and one count of prostitution - pandering, each punishable to up to 20 years in prison. Her bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety.
