NORRISTOWN, Penn. - As the mother of the two little girls he sexually assaulted angrily confronted him in court, calling him a sick, disgusting, awful person, a Delaware County man learned he will spend up to two decades in prison for abusing the girls while they were in his company at locations in Abington and Cheltenham townships. Maurice Champen, 38, of the 300 block of South 5th Street, Darby, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 10 to 20 years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to charges of rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and endangering the welfare of children in connection with incidents that occurred between September 2019 and July 2025. Judge Wendy G. Rothstein, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, also ordered Champen to complete eight years of probation, consecutive to parole, meaning Champen will be under court supervision for 28 years. Champen also faces a lifetime requirement to report his address to state police in order to comply with Pennsylvania's Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, previously known as Megan's Law. Champen knew the mother of the girls and had access to the children at various times while they lived in Abington and Cheltenham townships, in eastern Pennsylvania. The girls were as young as 8 and 11, and Champen was between 33 and 37 years old when the assaults occurred. I have been dreading this day ever since I found out how a sick, disgusting, just awful person can betray someone they called their friend, the mother of the victims addressed Champen during his sentencing hearing, adding she worked hard to protect her children and was betrayed by Champen, who took away her children's safety, innocence and sense of trust. I will never forgive you. I hope society just forgets about you and you end up alone and just desolate. I want you to feel worthless. I want you to feel hated and more than anything I want you to hurt. Now you can go to hell, the woman glared at Champen, who showed no outward reaction to her comments.
