 There's no way a man should be addressing a woman like this over a conflict between children,  Brent said.  It's unacceptable. 

Bettison said detectives continued interviewing witnesses Monday night to gather more details about the confrontation.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect's whereabouts is urged to contact Detroit police.

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield condemned the shooting. In a statement, she said that both victims were expected to recover from their physical injuries but warned that the emotional trauma could be more difficult to overcome.

 My administration and I are committed to changing the culture of settling conflict with weapons in our City,  Sheffield said.

Sheffield also said her administration's Office of Neighborhood and Community Safety and victim services would be deployed to support the families affected by the shooting.
