DETROIT - A 16-year-old girl was killed, and another person was injured in a drive-by shooting on Detroit's east side on Tuesday. The shooting happened on Oct. 13 just before 7 p.m. on Chalmers Street near E Forest Avenue. According to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, four people were sitting inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee when a dark-colored sedan drove past and opened fire. A 16-year-old girl was struck by gunfire and died from her injuries. Another person was shot in the hip and was taken to a local hospital. The other two people inside the Jeep were uninjured. No arrests were made. We will relentlessly utilize our technology to pursue the perpetrators of this crime, Bettison said in a media briefing Tuesday night. I'm confident that we'll be able to identify them, locate them, and bring them to justice. Police plan increased patrols Bettison said residents should expect more police in the area, including more uniformed officers and patrols. He also said he plans to conduct additional enforcement operations. Bettison urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detroit police or call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. The shooting involving the teenager comes amid a series of incidents involving children and gun violence in Detroit. Bettison referenced the 7-year-old who was shot Monday and an 11-year-old who was shot the previous week. It's all life is precious, Bettison said. But for me, it really gets to me when it's kids. That really hits here. Community leaders call for act #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
