Community representatives, police oversight officials, and others gathered at the scene Tuesday night to support the department and the neighborhood.

Bettison said the city's efforts to keep young people safe during the summer had helped produce one of the safest summers on record for youth violence, but he said the violence must be addressed year-round.

 We're sick of the violence. We're tired. Enough is enough,  Bettison said.  But it's all about action and holding the individuals accountable. 

Bettison said police would continue working with community organizations and government partners to prevent violence, intervene before shootings occur, and hold those responsible accountable.

The investigation into Tuesday's shooting is ongoing.
