STERLING HEIGHTS - A Sterling Heights man accused of fatally stabbing his pregnant girlfriend in March 2024 - killing both her and her unborn child - was found guilty by a jury last week, following a two-week trial. Damarion Winston Goler, 33, was convicted on Friday of second-degree murder, homicide causing death of an unborn fetus, and tampering with evidence in a homicide case in connection to the death of 31-year-old Talic Mersina. Damarion Winston Goler, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, homicide causing death of an unborn fetus, and tampering with evidence in a homicide case in connection to the death of his 31-year-old girlfriend Talic Mersina and her unborn child. (WDIV) Authorities say Goler stabbed Mersina multiple times near the door of their apartment in the area of 18 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue on March 24, 2024. When police arrived at the complex around 3 a.m. for a welfare check, they located blood in the hallway, but no one was inside the apartment. Later that day, Clinton Township police were called to the area of Harper Avenue and Glenwood Street, where a man was reportedly covered in blood. Police found Goler and Mersina in her car in the parking lot of Goler's mother's apartment, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday. Goler was arrested and Mersina was taken to a nearby hospital, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. I hope this conviction brings some measure of closure to the victims' family, said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a news release on Wednesday. The defendant has been held accountable for his actions, but no verdict can undo the tragic loss or erase the pain this family has endured. Goler, who has been held without bond at the Macomb County Jail since his arraignment in March 2024, is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, before Judge Matthew P. Sabaugh. #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
