charge on Sept. 24. He was acquitted on three other counts. Berrios was also sentenced to 2 years in prison on the 4th degree count, which will be served concurrently. The 10-to-15 year sentence was at the top end of the state of Michigan's sentencing guidelines. He is a Predator of the worst kind… It's one of several criminal cases against Berrios, accusing him of sexually assaulting multiple women while they were patients under his care. Additionally, more than a dozen women have also filed civil lawsuits against Berrios, saying that he sexually assaulted them. Berrios, clad in a green Wayne County Jail jumpsuit, grew emotional reading a statement before the sentencing, portraying himself as a heroic and selfless first responder who has held people's hands as they took their last breath. He insisted he's innocent and claims he took good care of the victim. I am not a monster, Berrios said. I did take care of her; I kept her safe and free from additional injuries The victim took the stand prior to the sentencing and said Berrios was nothing short of a monster and took advantage of her at her most vulnerable. Nothing he did to me in that room was medical care, she said. He was not treating me. He was not checking on me. He was not helping me. What he did to me had nothing to do with being a nurse, she said. He is a predator of the worst kind. What he did to me was not a mistake. Berrios will remain in the Wayne County Jail as he still has seven remaining criminal cases pending against him. His next court appearance is set for Nov. 20.
