BRIGHTON TWP, Mich. - A 28-year-old Fenton man has died after getting struck by a commercial truck on westbound I-96 while inspecting his vehicle following a collision with a deer. The crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. near Pleasant Valley Road (Exit 150) in Brighton Township. According to Michigan State Police, the man was driving a Ford Escape in the far right lane when he hit the deer, and did not move his vehicle to the shoulder before exiting. As he was observing the damage, a box truck traveling in the center lane moved to the right lane and struck the Ford driver while swerving to avoid the disabled vehicle. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reported that all westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for several hours following the crash. The freeway is now back open.
