Macomb County is roughly 500 miles away from Cornell University but the names of local police officers have been linked to a lawsuit filed by a female student who accuses multiple students of sexually assault. The suit, filed anonymously on Sept. 16, alleges Scott Kretzschmar of St. Clair County along with six other students who took part in multiple incidents on the night of Oct. 19, 2024 and into the following morning at a fraternity house on Cornell's campus. The story gained national headlines and exposure on social media due to its allegations of drug use and the fact that no criminal charges had been filed by New York prosecutors, But in Macomb County, the story received additional coverage because the law enforcement community and others instantly recognized the Kretzschmar name. Most notably, Scott Kretzschmar's mother, Samantha is the director of the Fraser Public Safety Department. Some social media commentators implied the mother had a role in convincing New York authorities not to file charges. By late Tuesday, the speculation apparently spurred Fraser City Manager Elaine Leven to issue a statement. The statement indicated Fraser city officials were aware of how the story originating in New York continues to unfold. This matter has no connection to City of Fraser operations, Leven said. Neither the City nor any of its employees have been involved in any investigation into the allegations. We remain committed to serving the residents of Fraser and will continue to do so. The City has no additional comments at this time, and any further inquiries should be directed to those with knowledge of the matter in New York. Leven did not make herself available for follow-up questions. The matter also caused confusion in Sterling Heights as social media posts stated Scott Kretzschmar had at one time worked for the the police department in that community. Turns out it was Max Kretzschmar, one of Scott's two older brothers, who was hired as an officer. The City of Sterling Heights does not, and has never, employed an individual by the name of Scott Kretzschmar, Sterling He #thenewsherald #CrimeInTheD ®
