Michigan Department of Corrections officials said suspected contraband was discovered in a lobby restroom after a visitor left the prison.

A woman arrived claiming she had a scheduled visit with an incarcerated man, but staff told her no visit was scheduled. She then used the lobby restroom and left.

Officials said the package contained K2, high-potency THC wax, and Suboxone strips.

After removing the suspected drugs, investigators placed a decoy package in the restroom. A prisoner porter allegedly picked it up the next morning and tried to conceal it.

MDOC's Intelligence Operations referred the case to Michigan State Police. Investigators said they identified multiple people allegedly connected to the suspected smuggling operation.

The Michigan Department of Corrections said the incident began Jan. 18, when a woman arrived at the Upper Peninsula prison claiming to have a scheduled visit with an incarcerated man. Staff told her no visit was scheduled, after which she used a lobby restroom and left the facility.

Officers who noticed what they described as suspicious behavior searched the restroom and found a package containing several types of suspected contraband, including K2, high-potency THC wax and Suboxone strips.
