DETROIT - A 38-year-old Detroit man accused of killing a raccoon by burning it alive and posting a video of the incident on social media was sentenced on Thursday to serve 18 months of probation. Henry Bernard Montgomery pleaded guilty in September to killing/torturing an animal in the third degree - a felony carrying a maximum sentence of four years in prison. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Montgomery tortured and burned the animal on the morning of June 17 at a residence on Washburn Street in Detroit, before posting the video online. He was arrested three days later. It is hard for one to imagine what kind of perverse pleasure was being had here by the defendant's alleged conduct, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a news release issued after his arrest. I would say that this case has unbelievable facts, but unfortunately that would not be a true statement. I should be surprised but I am not. As part of his sentence, Montgomery is prohibited from owning pets and must pay $500 in fees and complete 80 hours of community service. #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
