Berkley police shared surveillance footage of a suspect attempting to break into the Vape Hut on Woodward Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.

The Berkley Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying two young suspects involved in an attempted breaking and entering at a smoke shop on Woodward Avenue over the weekend.

Police shared surveillance video of one of the suspects appearing to use a gallon-size paint can to try and smash the glass door of the Vape Shop, located off Princeton Road, around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Though police responded to the area, the suspects fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival.

The first suspect is described as a boy approximately 14-18 years old, wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, dark pants with white writing/logo on the left leg, and white shoes. It's possible the suspect's clothing was stained with brown paint, as surveillance footage shows the paint can busting open when he attempted to break open the door with it.

The second suspect, who does not appear in surveillance footage, is described by police as around the age 12-14, wearing all dark clothing.

Anyone with information about the incident or either suspect's identities should reach out to Berkley police detectives at 248-658-3390.
