HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A woman is dead and a man is hospitalized in critical condition after what authorities are calling an apparent murder-suicide in west Harris County.

The shooting happened in the 7400 block of Casuna Lane.


According to Sgt. Michael Ritchie with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Harris County Precinct 5 deputies responded to several calls at around 11 a.m. after someone reported a man and woman lying in the street and on the sidewalk.

Earlier, Pct. 5 deputies responded to the 7400 block of Casuna Lane regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult man and woman in the intersection suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deputies found the two suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The woman later died from her injuries. The man remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting happened outside the couple's residence.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Gonzalez said it appears the man shot his spouse multiple times before turning the gun on himself.

The couple has three children, ages 4, 11 and 13. Gonzalez said all three children were at school at the time of the shooting.

HCSO said its team is coordinating with school personnel to ensure the children are cared for and supported until arrangements can be made with family members.

Ritchie said investigators learned the two were married and received a 911 call from a friend of the woman.

According to Ritchie, the woman was on the phone with her friend when the friend heard the woman and her husband arguing. Shortly afterward, the friend heard gunshots over the phone. The woman then stopped responding.

Another 911 call came from a neighbor who found the two in the street.

HCSO detectives and crime scene investigators continue to investigate the shooting.
