The Brief Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's sons say their family is still searching for answers nearly two months after an ICE agent shot and killed their father. Their uncle Victor, who witnessed the July 7 shooting from the passenger seat, is now home after spending more than 50 days in federal immigration custody. All three surviving men who were inside Lorenzo's van are now out of federal custody as the Harris County District Attorney's Office moves closer to presenting the investigation to a grand jury.



Nearly two months after an ICE agent shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, his sons say bringing one of the most important witnesses to their father's death home has given their family some relief - but it has also opened a new chapter in their search for answers.

Ronaldo Salgado and Lorenzo Salgado Jr. sat down with FOX 26 Wednesday, just days after their uncle, Victor Salgado Araujo, was released from federal immigration custody.

Victor was sitting in the passenger seat beside his older brother when Lorenzo was shot July 7 during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Houston's East End.

For the brothers, however, Victor is more than a witness.

Lorenzo Jr. said his uncle lived with their family while they were growing up and became  very much like he's our oldest brother. 


Family Continues To Grieve:

Victor spent more than 50 days in federal immigration custody after witnessing his brother's death.

Ronaldo said having his uncle home has made clear just how much he is still carrying from that morning and the weeks that followed.

 It's tough. It's extremely tough,  Ronaldo said.  I mean, he can't sleep well. He is not eating well at all. 

Ronaldo said Victor witnessed  the worst of the worst  when his brother was killed beside him and then spent weeks in detention without what the family considered the freedom to grieve openly.

 He saw his own brother killed right next to him, right in front of him,  Ronaldo said.  So, add 54 days in detention without having the freedom to grieve as openly as he wanted to ... it took a toll.
