A man was shot to death inside a car in the Heights Thursday afternoon and Houston police are searching for the shooter, authorities said.

Shortly after 1 p.m., the Houston Police Department responded to a call about an adult man being shot inside a vehicle near 700 Cottage St., according to a department spokesperson.

The shooter fled on foot.

Witnesses told police that the driver and a pedestrian got into an altercation before the pedestrian fired several times at the vehicle, KPRC reported.

The police spokesperson said it was still unclear what led to the shooting.
