HOUSTON - A pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Cullen Boulevard and Bellfort Avenue, according to the Houston Police Department. The man was crossing Cullen outside a marked crosswalk and entered an active traffic lane around 9:46 p.m. A northbound vehicle hit him, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The pedestrian was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died despite life-saving efforts. Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and working to determine whether speed or other circumstances contributed to the crash.
