HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A former Klein ISD elementary school nurse was arrested in Montgomery County this week after a Harris County grand jury indicted her on several charges related to theft of students' prescription medication. Rachel Hoffman, 37, faces controlled substance fraud and theft charges, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office. This is one of those cases that rightfully so should shock the conscience of our community, DA Sean Teare said, noting that his office expects to file more charges against Hoffman. An elementary school nurse who's stealing drugs from kids, it's completely unacceptable. The charges come more than a year after KPRC 2 News first reported on concerns from a Kuehnle Elementary School parent about her twin boys' prescription ADHD medication disappearing just days after she delivered a fresh, 30-day supply. During a routine audit, the school informed her that one of her sons had a bottle full of Aleve, while the other had a bottle that contained loratadine, an over-the-counter allergy medicine. Within days, the school nurse was fired after a second audit found additional medication discrepancies, Klein ISD said at the time. Prosecutors allege Hoffman was not administering ADHD medications prescribed to elementary students but instead effectively giving them placebos, Teare said. She then would allegedly take their ADHD medication. The DA's office Public Integrity Unit investigated the case resulting in a grand jury indictment last month. When we have someone that is entrusted with the care of our youngest and most vulnerable population, who violates that in this kind of way, without any consent or knowledge of the parents, any consent or knowledge of the school, that is as a parent myself one of the most scary potential outcomes that we have, Teare said. Hoffman was arrested at her home in The Woodlands on Oct. 6 by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. She posted a $2,100 bond, according to MCSO, and was released Oct. 7. An initial court appearance in Harris County is still being scheduled. Before wor #click2houston #crimewatchhouston
