Montgomery County jurors on Monday were tasked with deciding a punishment for Miles Fridrich, who on Friday admitted to stabbing Conroe pediatrician Talat Khan to death at an apartment complex in October 2023.

Fridrich pleaded guilty to murder on Friday in the 9th state District Court in Conroe.

Khan, 52, died after she was stabbed multiple times while sitting on a picnic table at her apartment complex in Conroe on Oct. 28, 2023. Authorities arrested Fridrich, 26, who had fled the scene, and charged him with first-degree murder on Jan. 18, 2024.


Cary Hart, one of Fridrich's attorneys, told jurors Monday to consider his guilty plea an act of responsibility and the circumstances of his life at the time of the attack when determining an appropriate punishment.

Hart said Fridrich had previously suffered multiple head injuries and concussions and was addicted to Xanax. However, at the time of the attack, Fridrich had stopped taking the medication, causing what she called  psychotic episodes. 

 He was so paranoid, he had a lock on his bedroom door that needed a fingerprint to get in,  Hart said.


Alia Sohail, a new friend of Khan's at the time, testified that she was on the phone with the Khan when she heard screaming.

 I realized there was screaming going on, then it was quiet,  Sohail said.  I had no clue what was going on.
