Illegal fireworks burned everything an Inland Empire family had, they say as they're forced to navigate the loss of a home that's been in the family for four decades.

Video shows San Bernardino residents trying frantically to hose down flames from the Scott family's home after they say a fire started in someone's backyard over the Fourth of July weekend.

 That's all we have - memories and stories,  said Tawnya Scott, who lost her home of 40 years.  It doesn't hit you until after and then it's like we are OK, but where do we go? What do we do for clothes and food? Where are we going to go?

Fire officials said the blaze started at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. By the time firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed and flames spread to a neighbor's garage.

Leo Davis lives next door and said he was recovering from surgery when he got a knock at his front door.

 When I came out, I saw smoke and walked over to the driveway and saw their garage blazing up,  he said.  I said,  Oh lord, there goes my garage next.' 

Now, the Scott family is trying to piece together what's left of their lives. As they navigate those steps, they say they are thankful everyone made it out alive.

 I feel bad for my mom because she is disabled and she lost her mother's home to people's negligence,  Tawyna Scott said.  There are laws and rules in place for a reason. 

Although neighbors blame illegal fireworks, no arrests have been made thus far. CalFire San Bernardino said the case remains under investigation.
