A 63-year-old woman who disappeared while riding dirt bikes in the El Mirage Dry Lake Off-Highway Recreation Area has been found dead after a weeklong search, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said Julie Elizabeth Goforth was located deceased in a remote desert area on July 16, at about 12:27 p.m. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

According to investigators, Goforth disappeared on July 10 after riding dirt bikes with a friend at the recreation area, located at 20471 Mountain View Road in Adelanto.

Authorities said Goforth became separated from her friend after deciding to return to their vehicle to rest. When the friend returned to the vehicle, Goforth was no longer there.

When sheriff's deputies launched an extended search for Goforth, they were not able to locate her or her bike.

The investigation into the circumstances of Goforth's death is ongoing.
