Sources: Wisconsin man charged with death threats targeting Gov. Evers Prosecutors say a Wisconsin man left multiple voicemails with death threats directed at a top state official sources identify as Gov. Tony Evers.



A Fond du Lac man is facing multiple charges after prosecutors say he left voicemails threatening to kill a high-ranking Wisconsin executive branch official and the official's family.

Although the state official's name was not disclosed and the complaint does not explicitly name the official, multiple sources tell 12 News that the target was Gov. Tony Evers, and there are clues in the court documents that indicate the calls were directed at him.


Marsy's Law prohibits police and the courts from identifying victims during the judicial process.

Bradley F. Hartmann was charged with three felony counts of terrorist threats and four counts of unlawful use of a telephone. The charges stem from voicemails left June 28.

According to the criminal complaint, the messages mixed death threats with political and social grievances. In one voicemail, Hartmann allegedly said,  If I ever see you I'm going to f------ kill you. ... Resign, Trump 24 you f------ dip----. I will f------ find you, I will f------ kill you. Why are f------ gays and lesbians any more different than f------ straight people, you piece of s---. ... Yea call the cops on me I dare you, you f------ piece of s---. 

Prosecutors say in another call to Dane County dispatch, Hartmann said,  You better protect VICTIM 1 right now cause I left a very good message on his voicemail.  I'm going to find him and I'm going to f------ kill him. 

The criminal complaint provided the Madison phone numbers to which the threats were allegedly made. When dialed by 12 News, one of the numbers was answered by a recording identifying it as that of the governor's office.

12 News reviewed additional online court records that indicate the  defendant shall have no contact with Gov. Evers. Defendant shall have no contact with Capitol Square in Madison. Defendant shall have no contact with any event the Governor will be attending
