At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting in Coney Island, New York, on the Fourth of July, police said.

According to CBS News, the New York Police Department said a 21-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest, while the other victims are in a stable condition.


Four children, with ages ranging from 6 to 14, were shot. The youngest was shot in the stomach, CBS said, citing the NYPD.

The eight people found with gunshot wounds were taken to multiple hospitals in the area, the NYPD said.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene and no arrests have yet been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
