Milwaukee leaders call out ICE tactics after statewide arrest surge Milwaukee elected officials are condemning ICE's recent enforcement surge, which led to 57 arrests statewide over three days, calling the tactics violent and aggressive.

Milwaukee city leaders are denouncing a recent surge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in the Milwaukee area and statewide.

Congresswoman Gwen Moore led the charge Thursday, calling out ICE's tactics, alongside Milwaukee's mayor, common council president and others.


 We just letting you know that we are standing up for our community,  Moore said.

When asked last week, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed agents made 39 arrests statewide over the weekend of June 27 and 28.

When 12 News asked Thursday for recent numbers, DHS said officers made 57 arrests from June 29 to July 1. Moore accused ICE of targeting individuals without criminal records.

 They are snatching up and kidnapping people, some of whom don't even have parking tickets, much less any other criminal activity,  Moore said.  They're trying to meet quotas to satisfy the only issue that this totalitarian presidency has. 

DHS disputed Moore's claims, stating that many of those detained have criminal records, including sexual assault, drug trafficking, and fraud.

 ICE law enforcement officers are trained to use the minimum amount of force necessary to resolve dangerous situations to prioritize the safety of the public and our officers,  a DHS spokesperson said Thursday.  Officers are highly trained in de-escalation tactics and regularly receive ongoing use of force training. 

ICE and immigration enforcement were a brief topic of discussion for Vice President J.D. Vance during a stop in Milwaukee Wednesday.

 The Democrats that are running today are running on abolishing ICE and opening up the American southern border,  Vance said.

Moore responded to such remarks by saying,  Stop it. We want justice, and we want the America that our founding fathers dreamed of. We want a more perfect union.
