The Milwaukee Police Department has released video from the moment an officer was hit by a suspect's car while responding to gunshots downtown over the Fourth of July weekend.

Police released three short body camera videos of the incident from three different responding officers.


Police said officers patrolling the downtown district heard gunshots near Water and Knapp streets around 2:15 a.m. July 5.

Police said the driver who fired the shots struck a 25-year-old woman officer with their car while driving off.

Police said three officers fired at the car, including the officer who was hit.

Prosecutors charged the driver, Hunter Meyer, 18. According to the criminal complaint, Meyer was part of a group removed that night from Summerfest for being  rowdy  and wearing masks.

The complaint said officers found the vehicle unoccupied near 12th and Walnut streets. Prosecutors said Meyer was found nearby with gunshot injuries.
