The Dane County medical examiner said the cause and manner of Ruiz's death are pending, with additional testing underway.

The four officers are on administrative leave. The Wisconsin Justice Department Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the independent investigation. The case will then be turned over to the Dane County district attorney, who will decide whether to file charges.
