Just before midnight, police said officers responded to the area of Mayfair Road and Menomonee River Parkway for a hit-and-run crash. The caller reported a Ford F-250 truck was heading south in the northbound lanes when it sideswiped the caller's vehicle. According to police, the 911 caller followed the truck as it continued driving south in northbound lanes. The truck struck a Pontiac Vibe heading northbound on Mayfair Road near the Oak Leaf Trail, causing the truck to roll onto its roof. Police said the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, a 21-year-old Milwaukee woman, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Her condition is critical, but stable. The truck driver, a 46-year-old man from Eagle, ran away after the crash, but officers arrested him a short distance away, according to police. During the investigation, the truck driver showed signs of intoxication. While completing the investigation at a local hospital, the truck driver became uncooperative with hospital staff and officers, kicking a nurse and resisting officers in the process. The truck driver has since been taken to the Milwaukee County Criminal Justice Facility for the following charges: OWI - causing injury, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, operating a motor vehicle while suspended - causing great bodily harm, battery to healthcare providers. While the road was shut down for the rollover crash, a Wauwatosa police squad was parked at Mayfair Road and Walnut Street with its emergency lights on when a Mercury sedan crashed into it.
