Milwaukee man gets 18 months in prison in Wauwatosa mail theft case Police in Wauwatosa arrested a man over the weekend after surveillance cameras captured his car at the scene of multiple mail thefts Watch the original story in the video player above. A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after police caught him stealing mail from a Wauwatosa mailbox. Mario Casey was arrested last April after Wauwatosa police conducted surveillance near a mailbox that had been repeatedly targeted by thieves. Just alone in the month of March, there were, I think, eight separate incidents, Wauwatosa police Detective David Cefalu told WISN 12 News after the arrest. Investigators found stolen mail and a U.S. Postal Service master key, known as an arrow key, in Casey's car. According to the criminal complaint, Casey initially said he found the key at Mayfair mall but later said he got it from a dude that he knew through Facebook. Casey admitted to searching the stolen mail for checks, photographing them and sending the images to someone known as Oxy in Florida, investigators said. They estimated the stolen checks had a combined face value of more than $100,000. Casey was initially charged with five felonies. As part of a plea agreement, three charges were dismissed but read in at sentencing, meaning the judge could consider them when determining his sentence. On Thursday, Casey was sentenced to time served for money laundering. He also received 18 months in prison followed by 18 months of extended supervision for conspiracy to commit forgery. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service assisted Wauwatosa police with the investigation. #wisn #crimewatchmilwaukee
