Green Party congressional candidate charged after alleged road rage incident

Green Party congressional candidate Matthew Arndt faces a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in connection with an alleged road rage incident. A video recorded afterward at a gas station shows Arndt shouting profanities and denouncing Israel.

 Go (expletive) yourself. Post it on social media. I'm running for Congress here in the 6th District, and (expletive) Israel! Go (expletive) yourself!  Arndt said in the video.


Arndt told WISN 12 News that the other driver followed him into the gas station and harassed him.

The man who recorded the video acknowledged following Arndt into the gas station but told investigators that Arndt was the initial aggressor and had tailgated his vehicle.

According to newly obtained court records, the man was traveling east on Mequon Road with his 5-year-old son when Arndt began tailgating him. When the road expanded to two lanes, Arndt pulled into the right lane, accelerated alongside the man's vehicle, shouted  (expletive) Israel  and made an obscene hand gesture, the court records state.

The man told investigators he returned the gesture.

The man also alleged that Arndt forced his vehicle into oncoming traffic. He said he slowed down, allowing Arndt to pull ahead.

The man told investigators he believed a bumper sticker on his vehicle prompted the confrontation. The sticker, which features an Israeli flag, contains a profane message directed at Hamas.

Arndt denied the man's account of his driving. He told police he noticed the bumper sticker after the man repeatedly applied his brakes while driving in front of him.

 I don't know who these people are. I have a feeling that he went out of his way this morning to track me, possibly follow me to where my kids were or knew that I went there,  Arndt told investigators, according to court records. He said he was  emotionally upset because these people are going to threaten my family, threaten my children. So yeah, I'm heated.
