Wisconsin investigates probable Rock County measles cases Five probable measles cases in Rock County are linked to each other, but health officials say they are not connected to the southwest Wisconsin outbreak. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Rock County Public Health are investigating five probable measles cases in Rock County that are linked to each other but not to the ongoing outbreak in southwest Wisconsin. Since August, confirmed measles cases have been reported in Chippewa, Grant, Iowa, Lafayette, Marathon and Vernon counties. The Rock County cases are considered probable based on symptoms but have not been confirmed by laboratory testing. The source of the infection remains unknown. No public exposure notifications are currently needed, according to health officials. People who may have been exposed have been identified for direct follow-up from public health officials. Wisconsin has seen 267 confirmed cases of measles so far this year. If public health officials identify a location where people may have been exposed and not everyone can be identified and contacted directly, information about the location will be shared publicly. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can spread from person to person through the air and can remain in the air for two hours after an infected person coughs or sneezes. The disease can cause serious health complications, including pneumonia, brain damage and deafness, and can sometimes be deadly. #wisn #crimewatchmilwaukee
