rves a safe neighborhood. The officers working to provide that safety deserve a community that stands with them when they are attacked. They deserve a justice system that stands with them. Our officer should be recovering from a day's work, not from a violent attack. We are outraged that he and his family are paying the price for someone else's decision to fight the police. Milwaukee cannot allow the next injured officer to become just another headline. What we know Witness video captured the officers, desperate, pleading for help. One witness, who asked to remain anonymous, told 12 News they heard wrestling noises and described what they saw happen after. I saw, like um, a guy pistol-whipping, um a cop, and um, biting a cop. And the cop yelling, help me and all that stuff, the witness said. Before you know it, the cop was able to control the guy. The incident began around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon, when police said the man fled a traffic stop. Officers said the driver crashed into a tree near 48th and Hadley Street and then fled on foot. When an officer caught up with the suspect, there was a fight, according to police. Police said that's when the 22-year-old tried to disarm the officer and repeatedly hit him with a firearm magazine taken from his vest. Police said additional officers arrived and arrested the suspect. Multiple firearms and suspected narcotics were recovered from the crashed vehicle, police said. Officers said a 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle also ran away, but was arrested shortly after. MPD said the injured officer, a 32-year-old, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He has since been released and is recovering at home. Any charges will be referred to the Milwaukee District Attorney.
